Mr Enrico Treichler, President, Man.Se.F. Onlus, Italy

MAN.SE.F.Onlus is a Non Profit Organisation offering its services to local communities in LDCs, in cooperation with Federchimica, the Chemical Industry Federation in Italy. Investment of approximately 40,000
euro to produce 70 tons/year of biomass oil and 140 tons/tear of natural fertilizers from Jatropha Curcas, creates 70 jobs using a cooperative entity. Supply to the members cooking stoves fuelled with the oil replacing charcoal presently used, saves 2,17 tons/year of CO2 per family, or 150 tons/year for a nucleus of 700 people, doubled because of non cutting trees and transformation of wood into charcoal. The substantial time involved in firewood collection (7 hours/week) and the long cooking hours (14-21hours/week) do not allow women time to engage in other, more productive activities. A potential of roughly 3,000 euro CDM of CO2 equivalent could be generated.
